The crew of space shuttle Endeavour recaptured a 25 million
dollars satellite Thursday (14/9), ending three trouble-plagued
days of experiments with the saucer-shaped craft. The commander of
the space ship, David Walker, guided Endeavour up to the Wake
Shield Facility, a 3.7 meter (12-foot) steel dish that looks like
a flying saucer, and James Newman snagged it with the shuttle's
robot arm. The Wake Shield originally was supposed to be retrieved
Wednesday (13/9), but because of technical problems NASA decided
to give the satellite an extra day to finish its experiments - the
production of seven ultra-fine semiconductor films. The Wake
Shield, dispatched from Endeavour on Monday (11/9), will be
returned to Earth next week.
