Description

NASA Ames' Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) is a robotic mission that will orbit the moon to gather detailed information about the lunar atmosphere, conditions near the surface and environmental influences on lunar dust. LADEE is scheduled to launch from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia on Sept. 6, 2013.

During a televised news briefing from NASA Headquarters on Thursday, Aug. 22, panelists discussed the LADEE mission and how data from the mission will provide unprecedented information about the environment around the moon. The data will also give scientists a better understanding of other planetary bodies in our solar system and beyond.
